After months of excitement and anticipation, the day finally arrived for our trip of a lifetime! I have never been one for entering many competitions and could not believe that I had won this amazing trip for myself, my older sister, Shareen, and our two boyfriends, both conveniently named Craig.
Our journey began at the Gateway Hotel in Durban. We started to feel like VIP’s when we were whisked off to our first activity at Virginia Airport where we were to take to the skies in a small fixed-wing aircraft that had been planned for us. Unfortunately the wind was howling on that day and the Aviation Junction informed us that conditions were not suitable for flight but they were wonderful to offer us the opportunity to reschedule our flight (which we did for the 18th March) and we can’t wait!
We were excited and nervous for what the next day had in store. First stop was the Moses Mabidha Stadium where we took a trip up the Sky Car and then confronted the feared Big Swing jump off the top arch of the stadium! It was a monumental challenge and our stomach’s felt queasy just thinking about it. After climbing 320 steps to the top, it was a small matter of three, two, one, BUNGEE!
Next we were off to uShaka Marine World for some snorkelling. It was incredibly beautiful being so close to such pretty, iridescent fish, like the bright parrot fish and angel fish and we were even surprised to see a couple of not so small sharks in the tank with us!! That night, we enjoyed some fine dining at the Cargo Hold.
The next day we landed in Johannesburg and went straight to our accommodation, The Constantia Hotel.
That night, we were treated to supper at Moyo’s at Melrose Arch, where we enjoyed tribal face-painting and traditional singing. The restaurant has a uniquely African vibe and the meal was honestly the best I had on the entire trip.
After dinner, we slipped into our dancing shoes and headed off to Manhattan Nightclub. We sashayed straight past the long queue, loving our pre-arranged VIP access and received a free bottle of Wodka Vodka and Red Bulls and danced the rest of the night away!!!
Feeling a little worse for wear the next morning, we were in dire need of our spa treatment at Amani Africa Spa at the Radisson Blu. After changing into comfy robes and slippers we were taken to a giant Jacuzzi pool to unwind before our treatments began. A Body Scrub, steam bath, neck and back massage, sauna and a session in The Salt Room later, and we were all on Cloud 9.
Then it was time to say goodbye to Joburg and jet off to the Mother City. When we landed in Cape Town we finally got to meet Dean, who had been co-ordinating our trip from Day One. He drove us to the Inn on the Square Hotel in Green Point, our home while in Cape Town and it was absolutely the most perfect place to stay.
Later that afternoon, we were met by our driver in the most luxurious limo you have ever seen!!! We felt like celebrities drinking bubbly in this stylish limo that had a huge flat-screen TV, green lasers that went crazy in the dark and the most impressive and over-the-top aspect of all, the smoke machine. When we stopped somewhere our driver would set it off and we would emerge from the limo in a cloud of smoke!!
At Café Caprice in Camps Bay, we enjoyed exotic cocktails and an assortment of tasty snacks whilst watching the stunning sunset. We then ambled over to Blues Restaurant and enjoyed the best seafood we had eaten in a long time.
The next day, we had a day full of wine to look forward to at Waterford Estate. We were astonished by the beauty of the grounds and all agreed that the Wine Tour was our highlight of the trip. We got to sample the many different wines that Waterford has to offer while munching down on nuts, ciabatta bread, olives, biltong, dry wors and chocolate paired with the wines, which complemented and enhanced their tastes.
After a lot of wine, we headed over to Signal Hill for our paragliding experience with Para-Taxi. Soaring through the sky with Igor, our pilot was the most amazing, surreal feeling. The last dinner of the trip was at Woodlands Eatery, it was a brilliant way to end an unforgettable trip.
We were all seriously depressed to be on our way back to reality but we truly felt so blessed and are forever grateful for the opportunity that we were given to see our beautiful country and experience things that we had only ever dreamt of. Thank you so much UbuntuDeal, this trip will be with us forever.
P.S. The next time UbuntuDeal has a competition like this, you can bet I will be entering… and crossing my fingers tightly!!
